10-6-2017, Athens, Greece

Dear Sir/Madam

I am communicating to you the landmark decision of the Medical Council of Peiraius Greece (signed by its member Niki Andreadeli) of 7-6-2017 with which in order for a Greek citizen doctor to keep practicing medicine in Greece (that is to keep having a licence to practice in Greece) he needs to have a “good standing” certificate from the foreign states he practiced abroad. Because of the fact that within the medical register of the GMC there are hundred of thousands of Greek-citizen doctors the GMC might want to audit both their “good standing” certificate as well as their registration  status in the Greek republic. That is because of well known cases of Greek doctors who lost their licence in the UK (such as the gynaecologist Papanicolaou) and kept practicing in the Greece without a “good standing” certificate. That also means that if in the future the British state commences procedures against the Greek doctors of the UK -and therefore  they will not submit a valid “good standing” to the Greek Medical Councils- they immediately lose their licence to practice in Greece.

Kind regards

Ioannis Tosounidis
